Gigi's Bistro

Two weeks ago (before my computer and monitor problems) I was going to do a shoot at a local restaurant.. these are a few of the images.. As you can see, it's a dark place, brown and red walls, mustard ceiling, black furniture, and harsh halogen lights.. no matter the WB selected, or the exposure values - everything came out with a red or orange tone and had to do a lot of PP to get the colors to look more natural.. Any C&C, tips, recommendations, etc. would be greatly appreciated as I'm going to be doing some more..

Tough place to shoot. Post a couple of origs with EXIF data. Maybe that will give a clue.
Either that or ask them to repaint. :nunu:

I did mention repainting..  Here's the original from the dining room shot...
RAW format
Tamron 10-24mm at 14mm
0.8s at f/5.0
Ambient light
Partial metering (centered over the dark/light wall outside corner)
Auto WB
Adobe RGB 1998 color mode

After looking at the exif data - I should have used full-frame evaluative metering... or metered far-left and the bright area behind the bar and averaged the exposure..

Good thought on the metering.

Wonder what a large broad spectrum light or two would do to neutralize the halogens? Maybe pop in a few smaller wattage "daylight" bulbs over the bar just for the shot.

These shots will look so different when the room contains people to absorb the light and add colours. Um. Party?

I'm going back Friday night when they have live musical entertainment - it's always crowded..

Good thoughts on the dimmer bulbs too - thanks John..

did you try any shots with different WB's to see if that made a difference, allowing for the halogens, the shots actually look good, giving a nice ambience to the photos.

I shot a few close detail images near the bar with the WB at Tungsten but no better.. In ACR I tried different settings but As Shot looked best.. I believe this Friday night I'll try bracketing also.. when I shoot with people and the music act I'll probably have to use a low-power flash and drag the shutter somewhat..
It's a never-ending learning experience, isn't it?
Thanks David...

In my view the top one, close up of the sign, needs more light from somewhere.

I got no problem with the metering in the dinning room shot. But the shot looks ever so slightly off level to me.

The bottom shot I would be tempted to try in a horizontal format. Or at least crop the original to show less of the floor at the bottom.
