Too dark. The pictures need more light.

I edited these photos and added some fill light does this help?

Fill light refers more to using a flash/lighting to fill in a dark area of the subject or scene. I think what you mean is you're trying to lighten it and make adjustments in post processing. That might help just to lighten the entire photo, this was probably tricky because the light the camera picked up (because of the snow) might have been different than the way it would look to the eye.

still learning the terminology and just know what Picasa told me I was doing. Thank you for the correction.

I really like the photo of my husband except for the snow I caught falling right near his eyes.

You're losing contrast with your edit. You need a balance. The snow should be white and the darks dark.

Muvh better but his eyes look a tad dark now. If your software has it, use a dodge brush to bring the eyes back a bit. That failing turn down contrast slightly to bring back a little detail in the blacks.

Maybe shooting in RAW could be an option. You can treat the balance and make the colours "POP" for you....

I have a RAW file as well but I use Photoshop elements on the computer at my church and haven't been able to just get over there and edit there. These were edited in Picasa 3. Guess I will just have to get over to the church and play around in Photoshop.
