It looks like it might be an orchid. That's certainly not my specialty.
He has a gallery on photo.net but I don't see that one.
I sent him a message asking the question on photo.net. I'll let you know if I get an answer.

My friend sent this. I think he nailed it.
My guess would be that it’s a double-flowering Hibiscus. Look at the picture on this site and see if you don’t agree:
