I hope this is the right place to post this! I shot these similar photos of my dog in a snowfield and I'm up for critique! :)  No post processing has been done yet. What do you guys think?

cute dog. As a photo it could use some work. Composition is not ultimate. The best dog photos I think is when your on their level, on the ground shooting. And dont cut off their ears ( so to speak)

Situate your dog, or better yet, situate yourself so the lighting (assuming its natural) is to your benefit, not to your disadvantage.

Finish up with some easy post work.

Thank you for the critique! I shot these at sundown and couldn't shoot totally backlit, had to go more 'sidelit' or my shadow would be on my dog's face. Sadly this still meant half my dog's face would not be lit by the sun. I picked a bad 'time of light' taking these lol!

I totally hear you....We are all students, and that is what I love about photography. The fact that we can always learn new stuff, from beginners and pros alike, is the reason I love it.

If a thing is easy it aint worth doing:)

My tips would be, shoot tons of photos (its free) and always shoot manual (my opinion)

How I started was a full on trial and error, no forums, no youtube videos no classes no nothing. I literarily spent several months playing around with ISO, f stop and shutter speed, til the correlation finally made sense one day in my brain.

@Stefan-Olsson That's challenging and I admire you for that!
I agree with both tips. It takes a few tries to get a crisp photo of my dog even with a fast shutter speed; sometimes it doesn't focus on my dog or my hand shakes. It's also hard for me to get the photo perfectly lit since natural light can be unpredictable (I don't own any lighting equipment).

I just started photography- took the easy way and just educated myself with youtube tutorials. I hope I will be a much better photographer in the future by taking loads of photos! :)

I agree that the perspective of the shot can improve. Eye-level of the dog is a much better perspective. But the dog is real cute!

What an interesting set we have here. Sharpness and perspective need some work but it is a decent shot overall.

Dogs are always good subjects but it is always challenging to capture good moments with them. I appreciate the attempt. But just like the others have mentioned, it can still be worked out and improve.
