Shakespeare By The Sea

Every year Pt. Fermin Park in San Pedro, CA (Port of Los Angeles) is host to Shakespeare By the Sea.  The plays take place in an open air theatre which is roughly 30' across the park and another 100' straight down to the crashing Pacific Ocean.

#1 - The opening act for the Bard's A Mid-Summer Night's Dream.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula from Pt. Fermin Park.

Pretty good lighting for a stage play. Usually stage plays have really bad lighting.

Thank you Kira.  Fortunately for me, I haven't found stage/theatre lighting to be "bad".  Tricky yes ... but not truly bad. Tricky lighting, more often than not, adds more drama to the shot.  In this case, the lighting was fairly even overall and no Spots.  Spot lighting, especially in the hands of high school kids is deadly as the body will be highlighted and the face in shadows. This is a free event, open air clam shell theatre ... so stage production was minimal.

What's interesting about stage plays is that the faces are most of the time are filled emotions. And if hit by a perfect light, the output could be perfect.

I find the 6th shot to be really fascinating. It has the most genuine emotion although the focus is a bit off but the composition is really good.

I really like theatre ... it's all there for you ... like shooting fish in a barrel.

The lighting in here is very interesting. Like the composition as well because of the scenes depicted in each shot.

Thank you Bobby.  I was a spectator and all these were shot from my seat.
