Scary times - surrounded by out-of-control bush files (2)

G'day all
In the last 48 hours eastern Australia has experienced fire storms which the fire fighters say are unlike any from the past. Last night the people in New South Wales went to bed with 99 fires burning across the state with 17 of those being completely out-of-control

I personally was away from home in a regional town some 40 kilometres away and unable to return home as a newly started fire blocked the two highways back to my place. I had to sleep in the vehicle on the roadside - followed by a 200 kilometre detour inland and 'around the block' to get back home once daylight returned.

The state has lost 150 houses overnight - with possibly a similar number expected once communications with smaller locations returns. The two very large fires in my region have now burned some 30,000hectares / 75,000 acres

However I do have some images from late yesterday ...
1) two grab shots as I was walking the street - yesterday towards sundown

2) and today after sunrise ...

3) as the sun rose, the sky cleared a bit

4) but roads were surprisingly empty

The four evacuataion centres across the shire reported housing over 1000 people overnight - many travellers from interstate who had nowhere to go to

All scary stuff

Thanks matey-
yes #2 appeals to me also for its deep red sun, although the darkness of the clouds made the day seem like night

It saddens me to hear this news. Be safe everyone! And still, you were able to find some beauty in this challenging time. Good job!

Thanks Monika

Yes - I suppose that it's part of human nature to find / try to find - some good thing that follows some adversity

Here's another image for you ... our local highway reopened "with caution" following the efforts of the fire fighters
