There is something very fascinating about the road trains…
something very Oz typical. I did some trucking when I was
a student but not in similar heat nor in such stretches.

Yeah matey- could be something to do with "little boy" dreams - like wanting to be a fireman and drive those wonderful trucks with the siren going ...

Truckies (along with nurses, teachers and a few others) are one of the most under recognised professions, so to promote them above lawyers and politicians etc is always useful and often needed :)

Settled in the mid 1800s Charters Towers is one of Australia's many inland towns established during the gold rush days.  It was such a prosperous city that it even hosted a stock exchange, connected to the world via the telegraph.  Today it still is a prosperous centre, this time via cattle with beef exports to the world

#86,87,88, 2015- after dark journey through a busy port

The city of Port Hedland in northern West Australia is one of the world's busy shipping hubs with thousands of bulk carrier ships coming and going annually.  Mostly iron ore and various chemicals (not coal) it is an all-day / every-day operation.  The Missions for Seamen operate a water taxi service for crewmen to come ashore and video link talk to families around the world.  The water taxi also takes tourists, and here's images from their 9pm run taking seamen back to their ships

a) crewman waiting to transfer to his ship
