BC Rich Avenge

I bought this guitar about a year ago from some kid in Manchester. He said he had it for about 10+ years but could never play it because it was 'broken'. The finish was immaculate (as good as never been played) but was utterly unplayable. Basically the factory in China didn't do any setting/adjusting, they didn't even tighten the screws and nuts properly... the machine heads and neck were loose! No wonder he couldn't play it.

I paid £100 for it and set to work. Stripped it down completely and then started cleaning and reassembling. Had to straighten the neck (banana'd like hell), level and reround the frets, drop the nut and started putting it back together. Realised that it was actually very well made. The neck pocket is proper snug, the machine heads had no play, everything mechanical felt like quality. The electrics were shit so I replaced them with an EMG 81 and the EMG pot, jack and wiring. Set the action nice and low and tuned it to B standard.

This is now one of my main axes along with my Jackson King V. It plays and sounds awesome. Best £100 I ever spent. I absolutely love my Avenge.

I was getting a ton of reflection off the gloss black front face. Had to play around with lighting a lot before I got something I felt was acceptable.

I like the first shot more. The lines on the floor made a really nice slow in the subject.

Nice find.... what a great deal.  A lot of times, many sales are from beginners or people without a true interest and feel for playing.  Those put off by an instrument (unbeknown to them) hard to play because it's not set up properly presents a good opportunity for a hidden gem.  You did good alright.

For the shot, the fact that it has the red border around it, kept my eye more focused on the guitar image rather than having my eye stray to that nice brick wall as it did in your Ibanez shot. Like Jack, I too prefer the first image.
