"Our milk comes from Contented Cows"

1 year 11 months ago #736935 by Ozzie_Traveller
G'day all

A few decades ago there was an advertisers' contest for catching jingles - and Carnation and Nestle milk companies were having a go at it with the above title as one of the jingles. Today it's the pro & anti-wind-farm lobbyists who claim and counter claim the as-yet-unproven supposed deleterious noise effects from the rotating blades.

All I can say is that these cows do not seem to mind their location ....  they're Contented Cows !

ps- we in the motorhome touring Oz often stay overnight in the viewing carpark for these places because it's so quiet !! ... and the swooshing noise from the blades is 100 times quieter than the waves on our ocean beach, 250m away from home when we are at home

As always, feedback welcome

G'day NS
They are quite an engineering marvel really - a few yrs back when I stood at the base of one of these towers, it seemed as high as if it would touch the clouds!  The base of the tower was about 6m / 20 ft across and it sat on a concrete base (now hidden under the grass) of about the size of a tennis court

The blades were 'whooshing' above us rotating at about 1 blade tip above us every 1/2-second or so and everything else was quiet.  We could hear the cows and sheep in the paddocks below us quite clearly and road noise from trucks on the highway - that all came through - but the 'whoosh' was there all the time

I mention in my ps above about the ocean waves near our home - and often at night when the traffic noise from the highway a further 250m inland from our house (makes us in the middle between the ocean and the highway), then the ocean noise is always there and lulls people to sleep -- until the sirens from emergency vehicles tearing up the highway wakes us up again :p
