Dross removal to get to the black gold

G'day all

Coal mining has been with us for hundreds of years, and Aussie coal keeps the power stations around the world working to give us electrical power.  While change is on the horizon, for many around the world, that horizon is still many years away

1)- driverless trucks transporting the overburden a kilometre or so away

2)- the new 'hills' created by the overburden.  This lot were about 3km long by 1/2-km wide x 75+/- m high
It means thousands of tonnes of dirt and rock moved to get to the prize

As always, feedback welcome

G'day all

Closeups of the machinery used across the mines
Phil

1)- a truck in a viewing area ... note visitors

2)- the blade for a bulldozer in the mines ... 6,7metres / about 23-feet wide

Transporting equipment to / from mines for installation or repair also involves 3-vehicle escorts, flashing lights and 2-way radio in use and is a daily activity across the coal-fields regions of Oz

G'day mate

Although the bulldozed blade pic above is several yrs old, funnily enough 2-days ago in our travels thru the same coal mining country were were radioed / pulled aside for an identical heavy transport deal

The pilot vehicles were advising that the load was "6,7m wide ... please leave the road and stop beyond the fog-line"

6,7m probably means that the dirt being scooped is 6m wide ... what;s that in feet? 18 ~ 19 feet? -- ie: a hellova big shovel in use!
