Wide Loads Ahoy

G'day all

It's most unusual to have 3x Wide-Loads under police escort on the same highway and on the same day (but each one about an hour apart).  We had plenty of warning that they were approaching via the 2-way radio, where I could hear the front pilot vehicle's text as "northbound 6-point-7-metre wide load approaching... please exit the highway and park your vehicle"

Here they are ... we're in central Queensland at the moment--and all this stuff is used by the coal mining industry

1)- Wide Load ... 6,7m wide bulldozer blade

2)- Wide Load ... 7,3m wide bulldozer blade

3)- Wide Load and Highway Patrol police escort

4)- And here is the 8-metre wide bit of industrial machinery

As always, feedback welcome

That's not a knife. This is a knife. Old movie reference. That's some big equipment.

Love these. Don't really see this sort of thing in my area.

All very well if  you have 2-way radio installed ,  but  for those of us without it ,  we just have to learn by surprise .

Great shots Phil .

G'day Dave

On average we get 5 to 8 minutes warning from the primary escort vehicle's radio calls
Our radio is a GME ... Aussie made and able to be repaired almost anywhere across Oz (unlike the imports which you have to chuck away if something stops working)

This is the equiv to our 20-yr old job ... a 2-piece unit where the control box is mounted / hidden under the dash and a small head unit is seen by the driver
