Thnx! I was just experimenting. This is my 1st attempt at it. I just metered and slightly overexposed to compensate for reciprocity failure (color shift on my film) set the alarm on my phone for 2.5 mins (meter reading + over exposure for recip. failure), set my remote shutter switch, and busted out the flashlight. I tried the normal flashlight and then one with the colder, harsher, whiter/bluer looking LED bulb and the normal warmer light looked better. since i dont shoot digital, i could only guess at what i had so i previsualized and bracketed a few shots. All my exposures were right on but what i had the most trouble with was shining the right amount of light on the grass, and then shining the right amount of light to cover the bridge. This one ended up being my favorite. It had just the right amount of coverage on the grass.

Similar in technique, though very different in style. I was attracted to this girls "light paintings".

I have NO idea what her settings are (or how she does this). Thought you might want to incorporate some of it. If you contact her, she might let you in on her "secret".

Thanks brotha! :beerbang: I took a good look at her site and that is one of the more creative ideas i've seen in a long time. That is a real cool thing she has going on there. Thanks for the link!
Here's how she does it. She explains here secret here.

Interesting technique. Karl, I always enjoy looking at your photos (and it's nice to find a fellow film photographer). This bridge is starting to look real familiar. If you and Scotty are heading very far south into Ohio warn me ahead of time! - the pair of you might be too much excitement for the state to handle! LOL

I went to a workshop a few years ago w/this guy - www.daveblackphotography.com . It was on sports photography but he does some light painting that's pretty cool. But if you can use the technique you did w/a flashlight it just goes to show what you can accomplish w/something relatively simple.

If Scotty heads to Ohio I wanna know! I live in the Columbus area.

Karl- that shot is awesome. The colors and detail are brilliant! You have me wanting to go back to film.

I do see a film revival coming soon. It's going to be used to separate those who just got their Rebel camera and those who want to be taken seriously as a photographer.

The Auto features on new cameras are great, and make it possible for ANYONE to take a great picture. But it also makes it possible for ANYONE to take a great picture. ;)

The art world requires you to "show your tracks". To leave a trail behind showing how you made it.

Film makes that easy to do.

Matthew :)

PS I know there are some, and will continue to be some great digital ONLY photographers, who push the limits of what is possible. This isn't meant to diminish their contributions to our craft.

Karl and I are in the works..if schedules pan out to go down to Cuyahoga or southern ohio to hit some of the falls with the leaves falling. If we go, I will let you know ahead of time, the more the merrier.

It'll be at the end of october.

I like it, but I think it would be more dramatic with less light. It looks too much like a daytime shot now. That's just my opinion and it's not worth much.
