reflection: wonderful or the worst?

11 years 9 months ago #236318 by afoto
I took this shot about 2 weeks back and haven't been able to decide how i feel about it. I have always been a big fan of reflections in water, however i'm wondering if in this situation is just a little to cliche? perhaps the exact mirror reflection makes this just another sunset photo?
while shooting i kept looking for something interesting to put in the foreground of the image, unfortunately i didn't have much to work with as the water was muddy and kind of gross looking :P

any comments and critiques would be appreciated!

I love it. 1. The slow shutter speed to blur the clouds and, 2. including the tall grass on the right to lead the eye into the subject. :judge:

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

This is my favorite shot that you've posted. Just for kicks I rotated it upside down and it still looked really cool. I couldn't easily tell which was the reflection. Very nice... and as usual, inspiring!

Interesting sky, color edit, and good clean reflection but the composition doesn't do it for me. I'm stuck in that hole that the arrangement of the clouds created that is placed in the top left of the photo. It creates in my eye an unbalenced awkwardness to the scene. If you are looking for "portfolio worthy", I would say no. But others seem to like it so it could be just my own awkward and unbalenced eye lol :toocrazy:

I really like your photo.
Do you see the big heart that the clouds form on the left? I wonder if you could make that a bit more obvious. Not that I would want to change your photo in anyway, it looks perfect as it.
I was just wondering if that would give it the extra umpf you were looking for.

thanks karl,

i think that pretty much puts into words what i was feeling about the photo! it is sort of a weird big bright blank spot isn't it...

and everyone else, thank you for the comments! good to know the track into the swamp was worth it :)

awesome photo

would be curious to see without the reflection. personally I think it would put more emphasis on the sky and make it less busy

but in the end I am just a minimalist when it comes down to things
