Not the easiest place to captures photos of the turning trees, but I thought I would share one reasonably successful image.

Nice

I could be tempted to deepen the shadows on the far ridge slightly to give more punch to the yellow trees.

Thanks! Excellent idea. I'm still learning to focus on those sorts of details in order to fine-tune edits.

Yup.  Lightroom makes it all to easy to go completely nutz with tones in landscapes :toocrazy:

A little bit of the new de-haze adjustment from Adobe would help. I don't like the clouds in this image though. The color is just all wrong for clouds. I think a tighter crop would help also.  The right side of the image is not doing anything to help the image. I want to see more of the color and less of the framing.

I agree with the Shadow, and I think this could actually work better with a portrait oriented crop (vertical). The clouds don't bother me and Kelly had a good tip. I also like viewing the photo the way it is. Its digital! ...;)
(I have a photo I did this last weekend in the Adirondacks I've processed twenty ways now and still can't get a feel).....:(

Why so serious?

This is all good stuff to think about. Thank you.

I took another run, changed the toning (especially on the clouds), and went with a square crop. I had already used the dehaze tool (globally) but it only goes so far. I probably need to practice with it a bit more.

Nice.  But I prefer the original framing.  The silhouetted trees to the right in the OP provide a useful "negative space".  Which serves to add a touch of mystery, if not menace.  Very unusual for a fall landscape.  Sometimes I prefer unusual. :side:

I just love the fall colors.  My favorite time of the year to photograph the outdoors.   Is that a power line on the bottom of the photo?  I wonder if content aware brush will remove that with out making the tree tops look strange?   Thank you for sharing this beauty, you have reminded me that I need to get out!

If you mean the diagonal thing in the bottom of the frame, just to the right of center, that's a tree. I closely examined the original 36MP image and I do not see a power line anywhere. I won't remove that, odd though it appears.

Thanks.
