St. Maclou

In the historic center of Rouen, France, this small 14th century church is said to be the best preserved example of ornate gothic architecture. Comments always welcome!

First one you have managed to show how grand this church is

Can't see the EXIF info so don't know what time of day this was.  Assuming it is in the evening, I would like to see them all shot a little closer to sunset.  So that the artificial lighting would be softer.

For composition I like #1.  It would be fun if the main door was open, for a little peek inside.

Fantastic church!

Thanks for commenting. I went there for dinner, and I almost missed my reservation because I had to shoot, of course. It was a bit after 8pm, and the church was closed.I would have loved to go inside, but I left next morning, and wasn't able to go back. Next time...:)

More great shots.  I see you have a number of different cameras.  Which are you using here?

Thanks, Ian. That was the Nikon D3s with 24-70mmf/2.8, ISO 1,000, about 1/30s, f/3.5 for most of the shots. I didn't use the more appropriate apertures because I was handholding.

Such a beautiful church! I love how dark the sky is behind it. Makes it a fun interplay between the darkness of the sky and the lightness of the church.

Number one is my favorite John. You've been traveling a lot lately.  I love the color rendition, it makes me feel like i'm walking up to it.

Well done.

Thanks, Scotty.  An amazing sight, even more so because I had no idea it was there when I walked into the square looking for the restaurant.:)

I was going to say the same.  The photos have a nice degree of reach out and touch feeling to them.
