Vertiginous Beauvais

Winner in the race for height when the great french cathedrals were rising, it still has the highest gothic vaulting ever achieved. Little of its wonderful medieval stained glass survived the war. Comments always welcome!

G'day mate

Some really beautiful images in that group - thanks for showing us

When I see such images, I ponder as to the workers / workmanship of those artisans from hundreds of hears ago - they certainly knew their stuff.

Thank you, Phil! A few are known, but countless others can only be known through what they left us, often taking secrets with them that still defy our own skills.

France has a pride in its "métiers traditionels" or traditional crafts.
Rightfully or not, they have a high nose on these matters. Notre-
dame will prove their expertise once again.

… comes to mind what is going on in Gédelon!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

The first shot is really beautiful because of the details emphasized in the sharpness and I also like the last shot for its colors.

I never get tired of looking at old churches.  They are so grand and I just love the level of detail they spent back in the day constructing these.  Actually the best part is the stained glass windows!

I share your feelings! The glass at Beauvais was considered at tHe very top of this medieval art. Little survives...
