My wife takes videos with her phone. She limits them to a few seconds and only shows them to family members who might be interested in the content. Anything longer than 10 seconds will drive people from the room or send them to sleep.

My wife also backs up her video with stills. Simple snapshots of the same place, function, whatever.
She chooses wisely when shooting stills. Points of interest, close shots of architecture, the occasional person of interest, something unusual.
each shot its framed so the content is easy to see and not crowded.
She includes some interesting foreground. 

She says she’s not a good photographer. Her photos are interesting, informative, they generate conversation, they are appreciated by others, she enjoys what she takes. 

You could drop the videos and work on your still shots so you can concentrate on what you include in the shots and how it looks.

if you think the photos need improving then find a way of improving them. Look at other people’s photos, look at postcards of the places you’ve visited, go to travel magazines. 

And take your time. 
oh, yeah. Get out of the taxi and walk.

I usually take photos from my phone and do not post to any forum but photographytalk. Shooting with concentration and sense of careful do have to be appreciated, i agree with that. I'm not a good photographer too and for me the comments of others are very useful for improving my shots in next future times. 

I've been sharing this videos because of wanting change my way of posting. Base of what you've said above, I will make more still shooting when travelling around architecture.
