Best lens for product shots?

I have recently gotten into some product photography. Which lens that I currently have would be good to shoot product photography? 24mm or 85mm?

I would go with the 85mm, you may need a tigher shot. The 24mm may be too wide for products.

Yes, I would agree - the 24mm would also add a lot of distortion because it will need to be so close to the product. I take a lot of "producty" stock photos and I really like the 100mm macro. It lets me keep my distance so the camera isn't in the way of the lights, and I can focus really close when the shot requires that. It is also very sharp.

If you think I should need a tighter shot, should I then shoot with my 70-200 instead?

I would still use the 85mm, but if need too don't hesitate in using the 70-200, because you really do not know when you may need to get in closer to your subject.

Do you use a light tent for your product photos? I have a 70-200, maybe I'll use that instead. I mainly shoot portraits, but would like to get into product photography.

The 70-200mm and the 85mm would yield some good results, that 24mm is more for landscape work

:agree: 85mm

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.
