Wide Angle Lens/Fisheye help?

8 years 8 months ago #449450 by JuliaSmith15
Hi! I've been photographing for some time now, but am new to the Wide angle lens thing. I don't understand why the lens that I bought (that is meant for the 70D), won't connect to my 70D..? It came with a step up ring, and instructions mention a conversion lens, but I don't really want a conversion lens - I just want to be able to use my Wide Angle/Fisheye! And I'm going to Boston next week so I do want to try street photography.
Is there anyone out there that can really help me? I attached a photo of the lens that I purchased.

With all due respect, this appears to be an eBay or Dealtime purchase. And it appears to be a toy. You don't indicate where you got it from, though, so all one might suggest is to go back to the seller and find out why it isn't as promised.

It is a WA accessory lens /  filter.  Meant to be attached to the front of a normal lens via the filter thread on the normal lens.  Thus the need for the step up ring.  This is not a true WA lens, it does not replace your normal lens.  Which is why they are so much cheaper than a true WA lens.

Right... and I have tried to use that step up ring. Thank you, you've helped clear that up for me! If I were to purchase a real WA, where would you suggest?

If price is a factor, consider a used lens... I buy many optics from keh.com ... A very reputable source for used gear as well as new...

Thanks! So if I were to use the lens I bought, or if I am able to (I am considering trying them for practice because I'm such a beginner... haha), what do I need to get in order to attach them to my standard EFS 18-135? (Or I have a 50mm)
I'm sorry for asking so many questions!

That is what the step up ring is for.  If the ring does not fit the front of your lens then the ring is the wrong size.  It's very easy to order these rings online, in any sizes.  Should be under $10 each.  I have a drawer full of the darn things.

Something like these:

www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Adapter-Anodized...words=fotodiox+rings

They come in both step-up and step-down flavors.  Be careful, if you get the Fotodiox. They bend easily.
