What is the difference between both lenses? Do they work alike?

Thanks for your help!

A "Tele" is short for a telephoto lens, Normally they are anything over 85mm focal length and normally  a "Prime" or single focal length lens. They bring distant subjects closer by magnifing them. A "Zoom" lens is a lens that allows multiple focal lengths in one lens. You can have wide angle, mid range or telephoto zooms. A "Super Zoom" is a zoom lens that encompasses focal lengths from wide angle to telephoto ranges. Zooms are comprimise designs as they are made to be their best optically at certain focal lengths & apertures. Many are variable aperture lenses & the ones that are not are usually the expensive "pro" models. That said, zooms are more convienient as one doesn't have to carry around multiple lenses.

Hi Pete!

A Zoom is for short distances... A Tele for very long distances. Am I right?

I also have doubts on this.

I like to hunt... But I'm thinking of changing my rifle to a DSLR.

If I want to shoot long distance... Which is best? TELEPHOTO or ZOOM?

Both have their advantages & disadvantages. A single focal length telephoto will magnify distant subjects, but how much depends on the focal length, really long focal lengths magnify the most but it can be a pain to find your distant subject as the angle of view is so narrow. Zooms, (telephoto zooms that is)  can find the subject more easily as one can start out with the subject in the viewfinder at the wide end & take it to the long end but zooms are not always their best at the extremes of their range (the better ones are very costly, not that super teles are inexpensive either.). Bottom line is that zooms are more convienent as you can chage the focal length (and composition) easier.

It all depens on what you're shooting. I'd find it very hard to get up close and personal to someone with a tele, u know what I mean?
