The Death of Beautiful Rendition....

6 years 8 months ago #535061 by garyrhook
I'm on an email list from Photography Life, and the latest edition has a pointer to this article:

The Death of Beautiful Rendition and 3D Pop on Modern Lenses

The author comes across, to me, as amazingly smug. Yeah, we'd all like the best lenses, but while the Nikon 85 f/1.4D can be had for about $650, the 58 f/1.2 starts at $3000 and goes up from there.

I think that the only people who really care are the "get it right in camera because I can't be bothered with post" crowd.

So... thoughts?

Very wordy.  And I'm very lazy, so, as is my habit, I simply skipped down to the last paragraph -
  •  P.S. I hope our readers realize that this article is a satirical piece, aimed at poking fun at those individuals and websites that post nonsense information about lenses
Now I'm glad I didn't spend time reading the thing!

Actually, looking at the photographs is rather interesting. But the rant quickly grew tiresome, and wasn't really funny, to me.

Reading down into the comments, the author eventually reveals that none of the photos were taken with the old AIS period vintage lenses, but with the Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G and some modern primes. Perhaps we see what we expect to see while thinking we are being objective. And I am no exception: I use both the Noct and the 15mm f/3.5 AIS, because I think I see a difference....

I like Nasim and find his site quite informative. His being smug is subjective, I for one either don't notice or don't care. I take ANY opinions with a grain of salt, especially my own.....

Why so serious?

i know it's almost totally off topic but I've never seen a cat that looks like the one featured in these photographs. Looks more like an ocelot or wildcat than a house cat. Hahaha
