Need advice on which zoom lens to buy

I needed advice on what zoom lens I should buy. There are 2 lens below that I have been looking at, but I am open to other suggestions. I don't know whether to go with a farther distance, or a shorter distance but sharper image. I would also like to know how big a difference a 150-600mm would be than a 100-400. How much farther and closer can they get to the subject? I will mostly be using this to shoot birds and other animals.

This lens is the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Canon. This has a longer range, but has a higher aperture, so photos will not be as sharp.

This lens is the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM Autofocus Image Stabilized Telephoto Zoom Lens. It has less range, but it also has a better aperture, to take more sharp of photos.

I'd stick with the Canon, Tamron has some good glass, however IMO sticking with OEM glass is always preferred.

Both are 4X zooms.  There probably isn't a lot of performance difference between them.  The Canon will certainly have a better resale value if you decide to sell it.  If other things are the same, I would go that way.
