Ray Masters Filters for beginner photographer?

5 years 6 months ago #606720 by KENT MELTON
Another friend had caught the photography bug and was asking me today if I recommended a filter set called Ray Masters.  Well, got me.  Don't know much about these.  Have you heard of them and can comment on them?

His concern was if they cast a blue hue like what he heard about with the Lee's?

I can't comment on that brand, as I've never heard of it.

Lee, however, is highly regarded, and whatever cast it might create can be dealt with in post. Easily.

I went with Formatt-Hitech and am very happy with that decision. No problems here.

I don't know that one either might need to recommend you stick with brands people have heard of.  Filters are an investment, you don't want to have to do again and again.

As mentioned, HiTech is a high regarded branded, Lee is OK, there is NiSi and B+W and then Breakthrough.

Couldn't find many legit looking reviews.  But then again all filters are made by 1 of 3 manufactures these days.  So chances are high, these guys are the same as one of the other filter companies we all know about.

Canon EOS 7D SLR | XT W/18-55 Kit Lens | Canon 50mm 1.8 | Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 | Canon 28-105mm | Canon 75-300mm | Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro | Canon 100-400

Can't say I've even heard of that brand either.  Man, there are so many filter companies.   I didn't find much on these guys either.  Google just showed pages managed by them.  Video's had one from someone else from 2017, rest were from Raymasters youtube channel.  There was one article posted in 2015 from 3rd party.

then I found their flickr page with only 29 members:

Nope, can't comment either.  How did you find them?  I had tough time finding much on these things.  B&H, Adorama, or Amazon don't sell these.

My Camera Bag:

Canon 7D | 50mm f/1.2 | 17-40mm f/4 | 70-200mm f/2.8 | 320EX | 580EXII
