Are there Lens materials that lower/eliminate Chromatic aberration?

4 years 11 months ago #645409 by tommo020788
Hello,
I've been playing around with making custom macro lenses for a little while, just buying very cheap biconvex lenses such as from magnifying glasses, and now I want to step up the quality because I really enjoy this kind of photography.

One big issue I ran into with the lens I have been using is "chromatic Aberration". I often get a blue color showing up around the edges of high contrast areas in my photos, and I end up having to do a lot of editing to somewhat lessen the effect.

My plan is to ask a lens manufacturer to make a custom lens for me, but I really need to know what to ask for specifically so I get the right thing.
So if someone could please help me with these questions, that would be really really appreciated:

1. Is there an optimal focal length for taking photos of bugs? Does the focal length of the lens effect the sharpness of the image (in macro photography)

2. Is there a material type that would produce the least chromatic aberration? Or should I get some kind of filter to go on top of the lens?

3. Something about focal length confuses me... If I have a lens with a 5cm focal length, and I put that lens directly on top of my camera phone lens, then is that going to produce a less sharp image than I would get if I placed the lens 5cm in front of the camera phone lens?

Thanks in advance for your help!
p.s. I'm using a Huawei Mate 20 Pro phone with the custom lens.

Is this a serious post?

To have a manufacture make you a one off lens, would cost you tens of thousands of dollars. Why not save the money, invest in a descent DSLR and lens, and ditch the Huawei Mate 20 Pro phone you are using.

G'day Tommo

I will presume that your post is genuine and not spam as regrettably, so often is the case

The issue of lenses and their abilities / issues / defects has been around for hundreds of years and well covered by others. There is no real issue here for you to try to reinvent the wheel

If you are serious about your subject matter, please look up RAYNOX lenses and select one of the 4 they have for very serious closeup photography, both for us 'amateurs' and serious professionals.

Hope this helps
