Trying to decide on a new lense

4 years 2 months ago #672500 by [email protected]
I have been trying to pick out a new lense and think I have narrowed it down to 3. 16-35 f2.8, 24mm f1.8, amd 24-70mm f2.4. I will be taking mostly landscape and nature (not wild life) and astrophotography. I'm guessing g the 16-35 would be best for land escape while the 24mm would be best for astro. I was wondering if the 24 f1.8 would be sharp enufgh that I could just crop and get the same equity and effect as the 24-70. I was also wondering if the 16-35 f2.8 would be good enufgh for the astro

What camera body?

If you're using a D750 or D850, you can get away with higher ISO values. That makes the 16-35 a reasonable choice, even for astro.

No, a 24mm cropped won't produce the same results as a 24-70. Geometry still matters.

That said, the 24-70 would do just fine for nature, for astro (at 24mm) and for many other subjects. If you must have only one lens, make it an all-around. Spring for the newest 24-70 (assuming Nikon) and you won't be disappointed.

If this is all Canon, I can't help you.
