Help me to buy a new lens for portrait photography

Hi Guys,

I bought the Sony a6100 with a kit lens a few days back.
I am gonna use this as a portrait photoshoot.

I am confused to buy a new lens as I have a kit lens (wide-angle lens).

So please suggest me to buy a new lens for portrait photography and for other photography.

Thanks in Advance

Portrait lenses are typically considered to be 75mm-ish and longer. At least for head shots.

But you can use any lens for a "portrait" depending upon what you want to do.

N.B. do not concern yourself with "crop factor" idiocy. A lens is a lens, and its physical characteristics do not change, ever, for any reason.

It's true that nothing really changes using a crop sensor lens in terms of the lens focal length, magnification, etc. The angle of view does change and one needs to put more distance between them and their subject when using what is considered a standard focal length lens for portraits.when shooting with a crop camera. Thus confined spaces in studios usually mean you can't get far enough back for a portrait shot. Outdoors, it's less of a problem. I'd go with a standard zoom lens ( like a 24-70) for it's versatility in cropping to what you want. Just make sure that if you are going to print the image, that you leave enough room around the frame so that nothing gets cropped out in printing...
