What Is The Difference Between Polariser and Graduated Filters

I am trying to decide which filter would be the best investment. So what is the difference between polariser and graduated filters.

Those are two completely different filters with much different purpose. The polarized filter is: "A polarizing filter, used both in color and black and white photography, filters out light polarized perpendicularly to the axis of the filter. This has three applications in photography: it reduces reflections from some surfaces, it can darken the sky and it saturates the image more by eliminating unwanted reflections."

A Graduated filters: "A graduated neutral density filter, also known as a graduated ND filter, split neutral density filter, or just a graduated filter, is an optical filter that has a variable light transmission. Typically half of the filter is of neutral density which transitions, either abruptly or gradually, into the other half which is clear. It is used to bring an overly-bright part of a scene into the dynamic range of film or sensor. For example, it can be used to darken a bright sky so that both the sky and subject can be properly exposed. ND filters can come in a variety of shapes and sizes and densities and can be used in all types of photographic applications from still photography, motion photography and scientific applications."

A polarizer does two things, one, it reduces reflections in glass and water by changing the angle of the light entering the lens. It does the sdame thing with the sky, making it a deeper blue and is most effective when the sun is at a 90 degree angle from the lens. A Graduated filter is usually clear at the bottom and either darker at the top or sometimes colored. The most popular is a graduated neutral-density, which allows you to darken the sky while keeping the landscape properly exposed.
