NiZn AA Batteries used in camera flash?

4 months 2 weeks ago #679696 by Peter Nunez
I just learned about these NiZn AA batteries that apparently carry a larger punch then most AA batteries that are 1.2v.  These are 1.6v and when you fully charge them can charge up to 1.9v.  So can these be used in our flashes?

Thank you

Your best bet is to go do some web searching and reading. There's info out there, waiting to be consumed.

That said, using the wrong voltage in a device is generally not recommended.

The value that counts here is the 1.6 V — being the nominal
voltage of the cell — as its working tension at full charge.

The 1,9 V is pretty irrelevant, just a VOM readout of the cell
when off circuit.

Check what's the recommended V in the flash document.

ADDENDUM

The best compound for flash was 1.2 V NiCd — banned some
years back. The low inner resistance of that compound meant
it could release it's energy very fast — quickly recharging the
capactor of flashes… so quicly it was dangerous. They could be
charged very fast too, up to 10 C.

Mind you, I used it in my 45 CL/CT 4 for years with great plea-
sure but things are changing.
