Yellow and Black Garden Spider

I find it is easiest to photograph spiders, bugs, lizzards and other reptiles in the morning when it is cool and they are not very active. You want to add drama to a spider shot, take a spray bottle of water and mist the web. If it is cool out, the spider usually doesn't even move when it is getting sprayed.

I know the feeling about the angle....spiders always seem to be positioned awkwardly on their webs. Got some photos of the Writing Spider myself the other day...with it's egg sac....images on Facebook if you are interested.

I'm fairly certain that's a Female Banded Garden Spider (Argiope trifasciata). I'm in central Indiana and I have at least 1 in every patch of flowers. Beautiful photos. :) And these spiders don't hide unless they're provoked. Usually they just hang out and let you photograph them.

I've been face-to-face with these while detasseling corn back in the 1970's. Always wanted to grap a pic like these. Nice job.

You captured some very nice shots...good details and DOF. I grew up in PA, and remember seeing these all the time...haven't seen them here, in FL, though.
