Cool shots Scott, the unicorn cat does is that it's silk or something else? Looks like an odd sort of cocoon.

That's silk from the parasitic wasps that are infecting it. Once they hatch, they will feed on the caterpillar.

Thanks Scott, that's pretty crazy. Definitely a creep factor to those wasps, reminds me of the facehuggers from Alien.

Now that's what I call a close up, have you tried using one of those close up filters?

Actually, they are life sized or closer, not close up by a long shot. While I have close up filters (actually they are properly called lenses), bellows, extension tubes & reversing rings, I prefer using true macro lenses (as opposed to zooms with a macro feature. Those zooms are not true macro , as they don't get down to life sized & they are not "flat field" lenses (meaning IQ falls off toward the edges of the frame.I have 9 different "true macro" lenses ranging from 55 to 180mm in AF & MF models. Those "close up " filters are not very high quality. Many of the cheaper "sets" are only single element versions with lots of distortion & Chromatic aberrations. The better 2 element ones (like the Canon 500D or the Nikon 3T,4T,5T & 6T) give better results, but are still not up to the IQ of a true macro lens. Plus, unlike a true macro, they are a fixed magnifiication. What that means is that youneed to add or subtract the strength in order to vary the magnification ratio. If you really feel the need to use those filter types, get one of the Raynox ones, there is a DCR-150 & a DCR-250.
