Thank you Sarah. I never hated spiders but did have an irrational fear of them before I started shooting macro. Through photography I learned my fears were unfounded and like all things in nature, spiders have their place.

I love that this was taken with ambient light. I think artificial lighting wouldn't have been nearly as pleasing to view. Excellent shot!

Hi Tim - No doubt about it macro takes patience and lots of practice. Every now and then the efforts pay off and one captures a nice shot. Thank you for the comments.

Hi Tyler - I too like ambient light macro photography. If I had my way I would shoot it exclusively. That said, conditions in the field, light and more often slight breezes, necessitate the use of diffused flash to capture the subject in a pleasing frame. Thank you for your comments.

Catchy shot!  How are you framing up the shot before the little guy moves out of frame?

Thank you, most important issue in taking a tripod shot is squaring up to the subject to maximize the focal plane and DoF. I do the initial tripod setup by eye roughing it in. Do this enough times and it one gets fairly adept with the initial setup. Once I have things roughed in, eye to the viewfinder for final squaring and framing. I have a L-Plate on my camera. I attach a nodal rail to the L-Plate. The nodal rail is secured in an arca clamp on a Manfrotto Jr. Gear Head 410. This setup affords me 5 axes of movement. With a little practice one can quickly do the final framing and focal plane selection. Final attention to shot detail(s) includes mirror lock up and a remote shutter release.
