Very good documentation of a spectacular specimen, Scott,
too bad you did not work the shot!

Get him to pose in different ways, maybe smile?

I like the photos as is......

Why so serious?

To work a shot is to find better ways to capturing it more than
just documenting it… when possible — I don't count smiling in
that description.

Lighting to avoid hot spots prior to SR and colour tweaking are
among the many possibilities.

Thing is that this shot was simply meant to document the color change, nothing more...

Mission accomplished!

For me, the subject is so spectacular I would have
invested a bit more… just me.

It was kinda hard considering where it had decided to attach itself to. The plastic lid of the container. The 1st shot was actually a different pupa ( same species) that had already eclosed and that I have already released...

Moving it is no option considering the possible damage, you're right on that.
However, I see two ways that would come to mind…
  1. optimising the light to avoid hot spots prior to SR
  2. making the BG less conspicuous in PP
Nevertheless, spectacular creatures, Scott! :)

Very cool. I'd be happy just being able to watch the transformation in person. If you have an opportunity like this again, I think it would be awesome to stop frame a movie of it going through the process.
