What brand/model? Many older ones were seriously underpowered... I have two LED units. One's OK, the other sucks BB's

Judging by the image, it appears that this isn't a "flash" type ring light but one that simply adds illumination to the scene. What were the shooting parameters on this shot?

No flash but LEDs… that were the only illumination

In a darkened studio, D3S + 105 ƒ2.8 + LED ring @ +/- 30cm.

Excellent details. It appears that there is more light on top and then it slowly dissipates going down and to the left. That could be subject orientation though.

Correct all the way, Steven! :P
The discussion with my students was that the inverse square law
applies even at close distance and in quite spectacular ways. It is
cool to see the wrap around effect even on dark subject. The fall-
off is due to the centre of the image being the top of the tubes
before cropping.
