Froglets

Froglets is from my Reptiles & Amphibians collection (thought I'd share something a little different for this week's topic) and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC.  I don't believe that these little guys had been out of the water that long.  In fact, you can see how round their bodies are and that they still have a little bit of tail left.  This was a challenging composition because they were fairly scared and would drop out of the bushes by the 100's as I approached them.  I had to guess the right tripod height from a distance and then move really slowly towards a spot where they were content and didn't want to jump away from.

In this particular image, 5.  Not sure many more could have fit on the bush they shared.  In total, I'd say way more than 1,000.  There were so many of them jumping down to the ground that I thought they were some kind of small blossoms falling off the bushes (at least from a distance).  That was what got my attention.  From 50 to 70 feet away I couldn't figure out what the heck was falling to the ground.  So I decided to investigate.  It wasn't until I got much closer that I discovered that they were very young tree frogs.  I had never seen that many in one spot before - even from the frog bridge over in the swamp.
