Young Macro Enthusiast- Introduction/Critique

5 years 4 months ago #620263 by S.F
Hey! So I am a 13 year who recently fell in love in macro photography. Ever since I was little, I had a weird love for bugs. As I got older and joined some bug forums. I saw people taking pictures of their bugs and posting. Some were beautifully captured, perfect DOF, great lighting, full body in focus (through stacking), etc. While others were along the lines of "black dot that moves". I whipped out a phone and tried to take some pics. Let's just say, I was a certified grainy image specialist. I did a little digging on how to get a simple phone to get some better pics. So I bought a cheap $15 clip on macro lens for it, my pics were better, but I wouldn't go as far as saying good. I wanted to show off all my amazing specimens without people thinking they were piles of dirt! So, I decided I was going to have to dish out the dough for a camera. One problem... I'm 13, so I don't have an income. I realized that I was going to have to sell off my extra bugs, and save up for a camera. Damn, people paid hundreds for some of my bugs! I eventually saved enough to get a cheap camera and equipment.($650 ish in total) So I decided to go with a point and shoot as my first, I didn't want to pay a lot for an actual DSLR, only to find out that I didn't like photography. So I bought the Canon Powershot SX60HS and a Raynox DCR-250 snap on lens. (Not an actual lens, more like a snap on powerful magnifying glass). Bought some tripods, focusing rails, bags, cleaning equipment, etc too. Here are some comparison pics of my photography, with a bare cell phone, a macro lens on a cell phone, to a camera. Only give critique on the camera pics.
