Primed

Primed is from my Reptiles & Amphibians collection and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC.  Sometimes we get lucky and a live creature will let us get quite close to it.  Normally you can't get within 10 feet of one of these frogs.  But, this leopard frog let me arrange a composition directly above it allowing me to create this unique perspective.  Of course I moved very slowly and carefully.  I actually have a couple of compositions that are even closer to the subject.

This is a well made shot. I can't imagine how you stumbled upon this scene.

I am an opportunistic wildlife photographer - that is, I'll only do it when there is a good opportunity.  In this case, I got lucky and came across a frog that didn't mind me be around it.  That happens once in a while.  I moved very slowly and carefully, but I felt like at any moment it was going to spring away from me, and I wouldn't get anything.
