I should add here, that for the most part Matrix style metering systems DO work well. They have gotten much better over the years. Nikon's 3D color matrix metering is amazingly accurate. And Canon's Evaluative mode isn't bad either.

But again, the system has no foundation to base your reading on, as Spot and CWA modes do. We can only trust the technology does what we need it to do -- to add (or subtract) the right amount to an exposure indicator.

Sure, practice makes perfect but, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are only perfecting your ability to fail.
