OK... I admit it. I stalked an Osprey yesterday. He has two favorite perches and I know where they are. :woohoo:

It takes tons of patience. I have stood beneath a tree or by a nest for hours waiting for them to take off and never gotten a shot. On a few occasions, they have taken off shortly after I arrived. One problem is that they do not give you a hint (body language, etc.) that they are going to take off. They just do it. They do have a particular motion before they, er, "relieve" themselves but not before takeoff. Turning their head is not a clue because their eyes do not rotate so they have to turn their heads to see things to the side or below.
This comes from sometimes daily observations for the past 6 years of birds I know by name ("Screech", "Squawk", "Victor, Jr", "Crybaby", etc.). My wife is very good at IDing them from their voices.

Be patient and vigilant.
