Which on do you prefer?

I took two shots very similar, wondering which one you prefer?

I myself find the first one more interesting and am drawn to it, yet I know it is dark. Feel free to leave your honest opinion.

Love your flower shots! The first one is my fave. :)

It is what it is.

The first one, even though it is darker there is more detail, the second one IMO has some extreme highlights were detail is lost, in the top of the flower.

I might not have that 'photographer eye' yet but I love the second one. I think the colors pop so much more and it has a dramtic meaning to it. To me... it could tell a story

Number one is ahead 60-40 but you could try combining them in sort of a HDR and see what you get... :judge:  :woohoo:

Tough ones to criticize, mj!
The first one shows great tactile texture and wonderful shades of color:the lightening green followed by the various shades of fuchsia- you do MN proud! But it doesn't work as an image for me: the composition is less effective, because of the shallow depth of field, and the green leaves at top need more detail(focus).
In the second one I like the rhythm and tension, but the focus is sharp only on the petals, and the green stem parts out of focus detract from the otherwise good composition.
Great work!

I think somewhere in between lies the best one. Each has its own assets and a balance is needed.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

They may be similar but they are miles apart also, sounds crazy I know, but they are two totally seperate studies of the same flower, I like both, the first one is moody and dramatic, the texture is amazing, the second one is more flowery for want of a better word, it shows off the beauty of the flower itself.
Well done on both.
