Pregrine Falcon

We have recently gained a new neighbor in our small downtown ... An adult Peregrine Falcon. I watched the falcon for about 45 minutes late this afternoon. At one point the falcon left and I was packing up my gear ... when it came back with supper ... a pigeon. The flight and capture took less than two minutes!

I used stacked teleconverters (2X and 1.4X) on my 500mm lens, which results in some image degradation ... but I wanted the images as close as possible. Focal length of approximately 1,400mm!

Great evening sunset "glow"

1400mm would be a bugger to focus. Well done.

Thanks all ....
Ninja - I've actually done it enough that I can do it pretty easily. The camera and 500mm will autofocus on my 1D's with the 1.4 closest to the camera body ... and then I just "tweek" it. Still have some image degradation though.

I see, I just said because one or two of them seem to be front focused slightly (bricks are sharper). :) Still they're good shots, better than I can do (because I don't have such a long lens :D ).
