Descendants of horses introduced in the 1700s. Most are of Spanish origin but some English breeds were discovered through DNA tests.

Wow thanks for sharing these they are great.

Two other spots that I know for watching wild horses is
Maryland has a preserve for them google it can't remember the exact name.

The other is in Georgia Cumberland Island you have to go with
the state park service in a small ferry over to Cumberland Island
and only allow 300 people a day over but the entire island
is roaming with wildhorses, wild pigs,birds,snakes,etc..

It's really something else to experience.

You are probably thinking of Chincoteague and Assateague on Virginia and Maryland's eastern shore. It is a great place to see the ponies and has a beautiful lighthouse as a bonus.

VERY NICE!

I would LOVE to plan a trip to Chincoteague and Assateague for the running of the ponies! I bet there would be such GREAT photos there.

That would be awesome. I understand the crowds are huge during the run.

YES! The crowds are HUGE! I understand one needs to book a hotel EARLY, cuz they fill up.

Beautiful next time I am going to the coast I want to go there for sure. Just getting my hubby to take me to all the places I go to take pictures. /he is a great husband to let me drag him every where I go. But he don't want me to go alone . So I can understand that sometimes just not safe out there. :judge:

Good idea.
To get to Shackleford Island, there is a ferry service (22 ft boat) out of Beaufort (just east of Moorhead City on 70). I went with Outer Banks ferry Service. outerbanksferry.com/exploreShackleford.php
