Okay after this I'll take a break from alligator pictures lol. I debated for 3 days whether or not to remove the red-eye but decided to leave it in...looks more menacing :)

OMG that is scary but awesome at the same time. Great capture. I love the red eyes. I hope there was some distance between you and the gator and you zoom in on him.

I hope 13 feet was an estimate made from quite a distance!

He may show up on one of the zombie shows. :woohoo:

What color were the eyes?

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

It was zoomed but I was less than 5 feet away. The scary thing about this is that there is an 11 footer that always hangs out in the same area, I sort of "know" him and his behavior and am comfortable enough to get close to him. I thought this was him but when I got home and started comparing this photo to the other gator I realized that is a larger gator that I know nothing about. I never would have ventured this close otherwise. Not that it's EVER a good idea lol...but I grew up around them and used to ride my bike around them on the paths as a kid so they've always been a part of my life.

In the daylight they are usually a greenish color with a cat-like pupil.

I thought for years they reflected silver in a spot light - I could spot them from quite a distance... My son, however tells me those are frogs. I'm afraid I'll never get out of the boat to check into it. The deep red is appropriate though.

I was using an orange CTO gel on the flash which is probably the reason for the red-eye. I've shone flashlights on them in the dark and the eyes always show up a silvery-white. Kinda cool when you see several pairs of eyes in the dark...

I know, we have gone boating after dark and it can be creepy!

Once, we had anchored and felt something bump the boat. My hubby got the flash light and saw it was a Gator. He screamed like a little girl.

I'm glad you left the red eye. IMO the shot wouldn't have that fierceness without it.

Great shot!
