One of my nephew's has been on two photo safari's now and last trip he got a lion like that. Looks like their drinking mud! Got a question for you. The trips he went on they shot everything from a completely open vehicle. Does everyone do that over there? That would make me awfully uncomfortable.

Hi Don, good question, a couple of points firstly on the safety side. Animals in some parks are harassed more then others, Kruger is in the news for this a lot, because of this I stopped going there around 15 years ago and only shoot in east africa now. You see a number of vehicle types in this area, open side 4x4 closed side 4x4 and minivans. I often get a film crew permit and go offroad so I have a closed side 4x4, 7 seater which i find is great for  getting closer to animals, driving through a lot of mud, etc I often shoot through the side windows rather than the top for a better angle. Here are a couple  of shots

That is a nice rig! My nephew was telling me a cheetah walked by the car they were in and he could have reached down and touched it. Think I'd prefer a car like you use. I don't care how tame wild animals are, they are still wild.

Thanks, we have 3 of them specially set up for photography. Even with this vehicle cheetahs get close though (if you know where to go and have some experience dealing with them) I would never touch a wild one though as you say they are still wild and hopefully stay that way
