Ring-Billed Gulls at Lake Erie

Over this past weekend, I made my first attempts at capturing a bird in flight. Out of about 90 shots, here are a handful of the Ring-Billed Gulls i captured.

There are times a five percent keeper rate makes me happy with BIF, you did well here. I especially like the first.....

Why so serious?

That would not suffice to make me a living for sure!

Now that you can do BiF, get proper plumage and directions.  B)

What is five percent keeper rate?

Also, what do you mean proper plumage and directions?

I'm new to this who photography thing.  I still do not even have a handle on what I'm doing with my camera.   I'd label these as beginner shots for sure.

Of all the takes in a shooting session, say 100, only 5 will not
got to the bin because of bad focus, bad frame, bad… anything!
When my students see what I through away, I brake their heart.
Proper technique, good well thought out gear and a bit of cle-
verness will increase a keeper's rate.

Plumage: no damaged feathers
Direction: a flight direction that permits to appreciate the
whole beauty and elegance of the bird and flight manoeuvres
