A KIlldeer

A Killdeer I spotted while out with my dog. They nest on the ground and pretend that they are injured to try and lure you away from their nest

G'day Scott

Seems similar to the Plover we have Downunder - same general colouring plus behaviour
ps- I like the colours of the tail feathers - looks like a defence mechanism of some sort too

Yes, we have them in central Europe and we call them
Little Ringed Plovers.

The first would be my pick of the two, Scott, but your
rendition, seems to be quite overdone to my eye… too
saturated, no tonal taming and lack highlights control.

Boy would like to have a try at the RAW file!

ADDENDUM

I just checked in my image bank… this is really a killdeer!

The Little Ringed Plover has only one throat collar!

Sorry for that, Scott!  :P

This was a quick snap as it was threatening to go away. I did a quick edit in Lightroom only and the rocks were overly bright whereas the bird was not, thus I played with the image a bit to try to find a balance. I  can send you the Raw file if you'd like to play with it...
