Visiting a local wetlands reserve

G'day all

Travelling eastern Oz at the moment and decided to visit a wetlands reserve that I've been to in years gone by.  However over the last decade it has been little more than a dried up swamp ... few birds and no lake or running waters - but now bursting with bird calls from the waters, the reeds and the trees surrounding the wetlands itself

Thinking I might get some 'reasonable' pics off I went ... to be disappointed.  Distances between me and the birds at 50 metres or more, and even racking the lens out to its max of 720mm FFequiv was not enough.  But I pressed the button anyway and cropped my pics from there

typical exif = Panny FZ-2500; 30x zoom / 720mm FFequiv; 1/1000s x F4,5; ISO-160
1) leave me alone ... i'm sleepy

2) stuck in the reeds

3) escape - beaudy mate

I don't know what the moorhen was up to ~ it was in the reeds and flapping around for ages before 'escaping' and getting back into the water

As always, feedback welcome

Thank you, Phil!

Grey Teal is a dabbling duck found in open wetlands in Australia
and New Zealand. Grey Teal can be identified due to the presen-
ce of a crimson coloured iris in its eyes. This crimson colour is re-
latively more prominent in adult males. It is a mottled brown duck
with white and green flashes on its wings. Wikipedia

Confirm by description and images. I understand I have no chance
to see these guys… yoooou selfish! :P

G'day mate

Yeah - sometimes it is a "reel bugga" that many of us are not in a position to travel around the globe and see for ourselves the actual sites from elsewhere

One could say "that's the enjoyable part of photography ... others can show us what we can't see first-hand" ~ but tourist travel is a wonderful way to see the country, whichever country you are in.

We in Oz do have many advantages over others ... Oz is as large as EU, and we predominantly speak one language and have one currency. Also Oz is as large as continental US and we have no gun issues, so it is extremely safe to travel both in the cities and the outback

Absolutely… just thinking of Pitter's Columbian super cool
contributions of insects, birds, and girls. Keep it up, buddy!
