Does anyone know of a professional bird photographer that can provide guidance on photographing birds?

You will not find anyone with more expertise and guidance than Arthur Morris at Birds As Art.Com. Here is the URL: www.birdsasart.com/ . I have attended one of his seminars in Atlanta, GA; and it was excellent! I really learned alot. And you can learn much from his online website as well as free emailed newsletter, "BAA Bulletin."

Happy Shooting!

I will agree with waynescook on his recommendation of Artie Morris. One of the best avian photographers around. I have been fortunate to be able to "shoot" with Artie a few times .... lots of fun and tips.

Not to even remotely say that I am in Artie Morris' class but if you have a question post it here, maybe I can help.

Unless the bird is sitting still, you need a fairly fast shutter. I have shot hummingbirds with everywhere from 1/200 to 1/2500 of a sec. The difference is amazing (wings a blur to wings "frozen".
Get as close as you can.
I got some of my best shots by using a tripod, pre-focusing on a feeder and using a remote shutter release (Zap-Shot for Canon), then shooting from inside or just away from the feeder. After a few shutter clicks, they get used to it and act naturally.

Then again, sometimes a second camera comes in handy.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
