How do you just get out there and take pictures? I ask because over the past month or so I just don't have to motivation to do it. I get all excited, grab my camera, and get out there to take some photographs. Then when I'm out and about I lose that excitement. This has never happened to me. Not really sure whats wrong. :(

Going out you should give yourself an "assignment" say trees, or moving objects like cars, or sunrise/sunset. Look for those situations and locations that meet the criteria for your assignment/task and then start shooting to fulfill the assignment that you are undertaking.

This was a MACRO assignment that I gave myself last winter

I never really thought of doing that before. I usually just go out never really have a plan or anything. I will have to give this a try! :)

You can also make a list of the types of photography that you want to get better at and go out to practice those areas. I set out 18 years ago to learn Hockey photography and I now shoot and write for a hockey magazine.

It may be that you want to be out and do something. But all you know is taking photos. So you get excited to go out and shoot, but when you get out, you really don't want to shoot. So don't stress about it. Just take a walk. Enjoy the day. While on your walk, you may find what you are looking for to shoot. :)

I'm in a class. The last assignment was to tell a story (journalism) with photos in black and white. I learned a lot about composing in the sense that I had to make a series of photos have a beginning, middle and end. I also had to focus on tonal elements of the shots and editing in B/W. This week it is flash photography both daylight (fill-flash) and indoor/nighttime shots. Over the summer I explored macro and DOF. Assignments work. It gives you a goal and pushes you towards making it. Once a skill is acquired you think start to see new possibilities in every situation. Rob said it first and I agree strongly.
