FX Vs DX mode for noise

5 years 6 months ago #609654 by tgkelly
Will be going on a trip next year and going over the gear i need. I have the Nikon 70-200 F4 I was planning to take. Problem is for one particular shoot it that will be in low light it might be a little short on focal length. My thought was to use the DX mode but unsure the effects to noise it would have. I shoot with a D750 which normally handles noise pretty well just looking to see if anyone has any experience shooting in low light in crop mode.

Hi and welcome to the site,
to answer your question there is no noise difference when shooting in DX mode as it´s the same sensor. Same as cropping in post. If you only have an F4 and really need more light then you can add off camera fill flash.

Thanks for that.
Unfortunately the subject will be too far away to use a flash. So I thing I will have to make do with some DX and some FX and see what works in post.
