Winding down

4 years 2 months ago #671690 by Tom-Dinning
After so much time behind a camera for one reason or another I’m handing in my keys, cleaning out the drawers, removing the gum from under the desk, settling into a comfortable chair and staring at the ceiling fan as it does it’s sweep.
Such is life.
irrespective of our enthusiasm and, how I hate this word, passion, we do find ourselves with a little less drive and mobility. Cameras get smaller, distances covered to shoot are shorter, focussing is a little more demanding, and swearing the same old questions enters into the realm of tedium.
now it’s time to contemplate. All these photos on the hard drive must have some purpose, surely. Can they serve a function? Are they of any use?
memories are fine but truth is sometimes distasteful. I look at a photo I too 20 years ago and wonder why I bothered. To what purpose can I put it?

Thats my plan. Browse through the files and share with you some thoughts on photographs and photography I have learned.
The photos won’t necessarily be my best or most memorable. They will be those which spark a moment of interest, sentimentally, curiosity, story-line, interpretation or fascination.
they require no critique. There is no point. The photos are as I see them now and as they are. It’s that image that my thoughts will ponder.

ill scatter the images in different places. Keep up with me if you would. Feel free to comment.

immnot a conceited person but, for practice and effect, I might engage in a selfy from time to time. This one is about 10 years old. It was recorded with minimal lighting through a partly opened window using a black backdrop.
I realise now that complexity often makes photographs too hard to take. I have kept in mind the technique Jan Bown used. 12 shots, the best will be the first and the last, lighting is whatever is there, wait for an awkward moment. All in less than 10 minutes.
